Port Blair, Oct. 17: Action on the complaint on use of domestic 14.2 Kg cylinders in commercial establishments, was taken by carrying out surprise raids on various hotel establishments today by a team comprising officials from CS&CA, IOCL & Police personnel.
Five hotels/restaurants were found to be illegally using 14.2 Kg domestic LPG cylinders for cooking purpose. The hotels raided were in and around Aberdeen Bazar & Mohanpura. A total of nine cylinders were confiscated for their illegal use.
All the owners of registered commercial establishments like hotels, food joints, eateries and dhabas are hereby appealed that they should not use 14.2 Kg LPG cylinders meant only for domestic purpose. Instead, they are advised to use the commercial 19.0 Kg LPG cylinders (blue coloured cylinder). Those found violating the norms will be liable for legal action.
Despite stringent rules prohibiting the use of domestic gas for commercial purpose, some miscreant owners of hotels and dhabas manage to dupe the authorities by displaying the blue coloured cylinders outside their business establishments when they are actually using the domestic cylinders in their kitchen. This directly affects the supply of domestic gas to the consumers, eventually resulting in its shortage, a communication received here said.
