Port Blair, Sept. 08: The Indian Tsunami Early Warning Centre (ITEWC) at Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, Hyderabad, Ministry of Earth Sciences, GoI will conduct Mock Tsunami Drill (IOWave14) from 5.30 am to 5.30 pm in coordination with IOC/ UNESCO as a Regional Tsunami Advisories Service Providers(RTSP) on Sept. 9.
The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration has made elaborate arrangements to participate in the exercise in coordination with the line departments/stakeholders, six Emergency Operations Centre at Campbell Bay, Kamorta, Car Nicobar, Hutbay, Port Blair, Mayabunder and DM Cell at Diglipur along with other control rooms. The general public have been urged not to panic during the drill.
This exercise is planned to test all the available mode of communication links available in these Islands to record the elapsed time period and its gaps to overcome with alternative communication channels for disseminating future threat through a fail free communication channels and hone the decision making abilities against the challenges of natural disasters.
