Diglipur, Sept 02: World Coconut day is celebrated every year around the world on 2nd Sep, 2014. The department of Agriculture has Organized ‘World Coconut Day’ in a befitting manner in the Office of the Assistant Director (Agri.) Diglipur.
This year the theme of the World coconut Day was “Neera-the future of coconut sector in India.” Earlier Shirly Thomas, AO has welcomed the gathering. In her welcome address importance of Neera production was emphasized. Neera is the sweet, oyster white coloured sap tapped from the immature inflorescence of coconut. It is a delicious health drink and rich source of natural sugar, minerals and vitamins. It contains substantial amount of iron, phosphorus and ascorbic acid. Tapping for neera and its sale offer opportunities to coconut farmers for enhancing on farm income and employment.
Shri. Dinesh ch.Das, AA explained about pachage of practice of coconut adopted in coconut and urged the farmers to form coconut producers society so that they could be benefitted in future. Smti. Manju , AA, explained in detail about the schemes of HVADA. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Shri. Lokanadhan (SMS).
Altogether gathering of more than 30nos of farmers and farmer’s friends including department staffs actively participated in the programme.
