Port Blair, Sept. 2: The A&N State Social Welfare Board, Port Blair in association with Malati Krishna Trust R.K. Pur, Little Andaman organized an awareness generation programme in the Community Hall, R.K. Pur yesterday. Over 200 women from nearby villages participated in the programme which was inaugurated by Smt. Ratna Kannan, Chairperson, A&NSSWB. The Chairperson in her address stressed for women’s awareness for achieving empowerment. She urged the women to come forward in understanding the programmes available for their development and get benefited. She also explained about the schemes being run by the State Board through Mahila Mandals/N.G.Os.
The A&N State Board is creating awareness by involving N.G.Os./Mahila Mandals to reduce suicidal tendencies and crime against women by organizing awareness generation programme.
During the camp resource persons from Police Department at Little Andaman Shri Arun Kumar Singh, S.H.O Hut Bay and Shri S. Kannan, Incharge 19 K.M, Little Andaman also spoke on different topics like sexual harassment, suicidal tendencies, domestic violence, rape cases and bad effect of consuming alcohol.
