Port Blair, Aug 27: At the call of the Confederation of Central Govt. Employees & Workers, New Delhi, the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, Andaman Nicobar Islands observed the “West Bengal Solidarity Day” today (27.08.2014) to protest against the ongoing brutalities on the trade union movement in West Bengal. In this regard, a meeting was held at Crusade House, Phoenix Bay today evening. Addressing the meeting, Shri Pronob Banerjee, former President of the Association explained in detail the attack unleashed on the trade union functionaries in West Bengal. He said that people are being terrorised to prevent them from participating in any democratic movement in West Bengal. Addressing the gathering, Shri SC Biswas, another former President described the situation in West Bengal as very alarming and called upon the government employees and workers to support the democratic movement against the fascist regime in West Bengal. Speaking on the occasion, Shri D. Ayyappan, General Secretary of the Association said that after terrorising the state government employees’ organisations in West Bengal, the anti-social elements and ruling party activists are now targeting the central government employees’ organisations located in West Bengal and preventing them from participating in the strike, demonstration, etc. Such attacks and intimidations on government employees and workers in West Bengal will be fought unitedly and bravely by the organised movement of the working class, he said. Shri TS Sreekumar, Asst. General Secretary of the Association explained in brief the history of working class movement in West Bengal.
