Port Blair, Aug 06: A STS bus and a Panchayat Bus today collided today head-on at CFO Nallah.
According to reports the accident took place at around 10.15 AM when a bus of Yerrata Gram Panchayat, coming from Mayabunder, hit the STS bus (Rangat to Mayabunder), head on.
The accident took place near a sharp turning and none of the bus driver had reportedly blown horn.
Nearly 25 people in both the buses got injuries. Out of 25 injured passengers,12 were seriously injured and taken to Mayabunder District Hospital.
Sadly the nearest Hospital, the Super PHC Billyground was unable to treat these serious patient as the X-Ray machine of the PHC is having some technical problem and also the Radiologist is absent since a long time. There are two doctors in PHC Billyground but one was absent due to personal reasons, putting entire pressure on the single doctors, who had to attend the accident case and also 100s of regular OPD patients.
This accident has highlighted how poorly the health sector is managed in remote Islands. PRI members of the area allege that they have intimated about the shortage of staffs in to the DC, North and Middle Andaman but no action yet to send more staffs for PHC Billyground. Perhaps the Administration is waiting for a bigger accident.
