Mayabunder, Aug 01: A good number of Forest & Police personnel with armed IRBs staffs started combing operation at 0630 hours in search of rogue and other two female elephants from Panighat Check post to Mohanpur area but could be locate anything. Again the search team consisting of a large number of both the departments’ employees started field operation at 1240 hours with a hope to trace out the rogue elephant and could not success, as the elephant is reportedly too clever.
Mrs. Menaka, IAS, DC N & M Andaman along with senior officer visited Austin – II Village to monitor the temporarily made camps. It is learnt that the next strategy of N & M Andaman District Administration will be chalked out under the close supervision of Mr. L Alphonse, Forest Ranger who has joined the team from Campbell Bay and is a very adept officer in the field to trace out the rogue elephant.
It is reported that a convoy team has been constituted and the convoy will start at 0800 hours from Panighat to Mohanpur and 0900 hours from Mohanpur to Panighat on trial basis. If the system is successful, it will be continued.
A male person physically fit from each family who has been accommodated at Govt. School, Mohanpur will be selected to visit their own houses situated at the rehabilitated area along with the police personnel with gun to collect important things and watch their cattle etc, it is learnt.
Meanwhile, talking to Andaman Sheekha at Port Blair the PCCF, Mr. Shashi Kumar today said that a helicopter with sharp shooters has been pressed into service with the help of ANC. He made it clear that the department will try to traqualize the Elephant first and if the Elephant does not come under control, then the Elephant will be ‘Killed’.
