Port Blair, June 05: World Environment Day is celebrated worldwide every year on 05 June. To commemorate the occasion, the Coast Guard Region (A&N) under the leadership of Inspector General K Natarajan PTM, TM conducted various activities to sensitize personnel on environmental issues. Green environment is essential for our future and accordingly the theme of ‘RAISE YOUR VOICE NOT THE SEA LEVEL’ was aptly followed by one and all.
As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, tree plantation drive was undertaken in Coast Guard Residential Area and Headquarters, spearheaded by Inspector General Krishnaswamy Natrajan, PTM, TM, Commander Coast Guard(A&N) stressed upon the significance of green and clean environment being “Elixir of life”. More than 300 saplings were planted.
The Officers, Men, Civilian Staff and their families joined hands in conducting numerous activities to spread the “Environmental Awareness”. Essay writing and Poster competitions on environment issues such as “Global Warming” and “Save Earth Save Energy” were conducted for CG Children.
Chief Conservator of Forest (Research and Working Plan) Shri Rajesh, IFS was the Chief Guest for the occasion. The Chief Guest distributed prizes to the winners of poster competition. Speaking on the occasion, he emphasized upon the need of protecting our fragile environment by creating mass awareness amongst the people for being sensitive towards environmental issues.
