Port Blair, May 15: In continuance of the meeting held on 28/4/2014 the Chairperson, PBMC has convened a meeting in his chamber with representatives of different organizations/associations who maintaining Marriage Halls within the Municipal area to sensitize them about the importance of solid waste management and its effect on the city.
Mr. K. Ganeshan, Chairperson, PBMC said that about 82 MT of solid waste is being collected and transported to the dumping yard daily by the Council. The PBMC has made a series of meeting with the representatives of hotel/Bar & Restaurant, , Private clinics & medial shops, and business establishments and is making arrangement to collect the wastes from their door steps during night hours for which nominal service charges will be collected. Similarly solid wastes produced in halls after functions such as marriage, birth day functions etc. will also be collected by the Council on nominal service charge.
This will also generate more revenue for the PBMC to provide better service to the people. Mr. K. Ganeshan, Chairperson, PBMC requested the representatives present to co-operate with the Council to keep the Port Blair city clean, neat and hygiene
The representatives of different organizations/associations present in the meeting appreciated the action initiated by the Chairperson for the disposal of solid waste in a planned manner and agreed to pay service charges @ Rs.500/- per function in which bulk solid waste is generated.
