Port Blair, Apr 23: Vice Admiral AG Thapliyal, AVSM and Bar accompanied by Mrs Rachna Thapliyal, President Tatrakshika made a maiden visit to Campbell Bay and Kamorta from 22_ 23 April 2014 to review the Operational efficiency, readiness and ongoing Op Infrastructure projects.
During the visit to Campbell Bay, the newly constructed Medical Inspection room with all facilities such as Mini OT, Heat stroke room , Independent female ward was inaugurated by the Director General Indian Coast Guard. The Type-4 Officers married accommodation was also inaugurated by Mrs Rachna Thapliyal at DHQ-10. The inaugurations took place in the presence of Inspector General VSR Murthy, PTM, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N). Brig Anil Singh, Chief Engineer (A&N Zone), Mrs Jyoti Murthy, President Tatrakshika (A & N) and Commandant HC Upadhaya Commander, Coast Guard District Headquarters No.10 were also present on the occasion.
In his address, DG Coast Guard stated that the MI room will certainly augment existing crucial medical facilities at this remote location, which will be availed not only by Indian Coast Guard personnel, but also by other military forces and civil agencies including the local populace. Vice Admiral AG Thapliyal also expressed his deep satisfaction with the infrastructure development of Coast Guard at all stations spread across the A&N Islands.
The Admiral was happy to learn that this project has fructified despite the odds faced by the Station due to landslides and heavy rains. He also appreciated the dedicated efforts put in by the Regional Headquarters and MES authorities.
Vice Admiral Thapliyal called on the Hon’ble Lt Governor Lt Gen (Retd) AK Singh, PVSM AVSM SM VSM at Raj Niwas and discussed various issues pertaining to CG role and its assets in overall security of the Islands. The Hon’ble Lt Governor, whilst appreciating the performance of Coast Guard in A&N Islands in dealing with Coastal Security, Search and Rescue, Anti poaching operations and Medical Evacuation, emphasized the need to have more assets to undertake surveillance of vast expanse area. The DGICG conveyed that in the last 2 years one additional Dornier, 02 IBs were positioned in Coast Guard A&N Region. He further stated that newly constructed Inshore Patrol Vessel ICGS Rajshreee has recently joined the Coast Guard fleet at Port Blair which is a replacement to decommissioned vessel ICGS Akka Devi. He assured Hon’ble Lt Governor that additional assets will be based at Port Blair after extension of CG jetty and on delivery of new ships under construction at various yards.
