Port Blair, Feb 21: The 21st Governing Body meeting of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), South Andaman was held under the Chairmanship of the Chairman, DRDA, (Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad) on 19/02/2014 in the Conference Hall, Zilla Parishad.
The meeting was attended by the Upadhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, the Executive Director, DRDA, South Andaman (CEO Zilla Parishad), the Project Director, DRDA (ADM South Andaman), the Pramukhs & Pradhans of South Andaman District, and senior officers of the NABARD, SBI and the Co-operative Bank, the BDOs and Officers of the Department of Rural Development, the District Industries Centre and other concerned departments. The interests of the tribal groups were watched and represented by the Director (Tribal Welfare) and a representative of Tribal Council.
It was noted with satisfaction that there is no pending case where assistance under the Indira Awaas Yojana (lAY) has been applied for and is pending.
Many significant suggestions were made by the public representatives regarding the possibility of extending the reach of the lAY to a larger section of the BPL population.
The Governing Body decided to take up the long delayed construction of community toilets at various locations of South Andaman district and in the Anganwadis, by utilizing the available fund under earlier Pour Flush Latrine Scheme of the Govt. of India.
The Dy General Manager NABARD presented the salient features of the National Rural Livelihood Mission and conveyed the need for formulating the State Rural Livelihood Mission for the Andaman and Nicobar islands.
The Governing Body decided to take up consultation with the NABCONS for formulation of the State Mission Plan for the speedy implementation of the Scheme and early creation of means of livelihood for the local population. It was also decided to prepare a detailed action plan for submitting the same to the Ministry for early release of funds.
