Chakka Jam at Ferrargunj; Angry protestors demand immediate supply of drinking water Mohammed Sajid Ferrargunj, Feb 12: A group of angry villagers of Ferrargunj today blocked Andaman Trunk Road this morning demanding immediate restoration of drinking water supply in the area. According to reports the APWD did not supply drinking water in the region since last nearly four days as the Jhinga Nallah Dam has gone dry, forcing public to hit the road. According to reports the protestors blocked ATR buses and all other vehicles at Ferrargunj. Soon officers of APWD reached the spot and after assurance that water will be supplied in the region through water tankers as temporary measure, the protestors agreed to withdraw the road blockade, however villagers maintained that in case the water supply through water tanks fails, to cater the need of general public, they will against stage protest. Talking to Andaman Sheekah the Chairperson of South Andaman Zilla Parishad today said that this is the first time when the Jhinga Nallah Dam has gone dry in the month of February, according to them every year only in March end and April the Dam used to dry up. “PRI members along with me will meet the Chief Secretary and discuss about a permanent solution to this problem as supplying water through water tanker is just a temporary measure,” the Adhyaksha added.
