Port Blair, Feb 10: The PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma has taken up the issue of the categories of Operational staff and Industrial employees of Andaman & Nicobar Administration who are governed by the statutory provisions for payment of overtime allowances with the Union Home Minister and requested that these employees may also be paid over time allowances on the basis of the wages being drawn by the employees as per the Sixth Central pay Commission pay scale.
During his recent meeting with the Minister Kuldeep has stated that the Government of India by setting up Central Pay Commission in regular intervals of 10 (ten) years has certainly uplifted the financial and social conditions of the government servants and in particular the UPA Government by implementing the Sixth Central Pay Commission recommendation.
However, as regard to the payment of overtime allowance, the same is being paid on the basis of the notional pay admissible during Fourth Central Pay Commission pay scale, which works out to a very meager amount not even commensurate with minimum daily wage of an unskilled worker computed on prorate basis for an hour’s work.
In the above context, Kuldeep has also informed that the Ministry of Railways and Ministry of Defence in consultation with the Minister of Labours & Employment and DOP&T has granted overtime allowances to the employees covered under the statutory provisions of the Factory Act 1948 on the basis of revised wages of Sixth Central pay Commission and with effect from the date the wages were revised.
Relevant documents of Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Railways respectively were also submitted to the Union Home Minister for kind reference and perusal.
