Port Blair, 3rd February 2014; To avoid water logging in and around Mohanpura and Gandhi Market area the proposed work on “Re-modeling and construction of drain from Municipal office building main gate via ALHW office building near Main gate of Directorate of Shipping Service” is in progress as per WAPCOS report. in this connection a joint inspection was carried out by Mrs. Punya Salila Srivastava, IAS., Commissioner-Cum-Secretary (PWD/UD), A & N Administration, Mr. K. Ganeshan, Chairperson, PBMC and Mr. S.P.Singh, Secretary, PBMC together with the officers of APWD and PBMC on 3rd February 2014, at 10.30 am. It will observed that the existing fruit Market is required to be shifted/removed to some other suitable location to facilitate construction/widening of drain stretch from Port Blair Municipal office to the Shivram complex junction via fruit market which is very much essential to avoid future flooding in Mohanpura area.
After the Joint inspection it was decided to shift the existing fruit vendors to some other suitable location at the earliest enabling construction/widening of the drain at this stretch. The authorities were advised to gear up the work and to complete the task before the onset of monsoon. The fruit vendors and shop keepers of Mohanpura area were requested to co-operate with the authorities in executing the work. The Executive Engineer (Works) of the PBMC was directed to prepare drawing and estimate for the proposed fruit market.
