Port Blair, Jan 30: A three day Bharat Nirman Public Information campaign will commence from 2nd February at the remote Island Kamorta, Nancowrie. The Islands Lt Governor, Lt Gen ( Retd) A K Singh will inaugurate the campaign on Sunday at 11 a. m. at Hockey ground in Kamorta. The Lt Governor will also release a set of 12 booklets on different developmental programmes and the Chief Secretary, AnandPrakash will receive the first copies of these illustrated booklets.
The Lt Governor will also flag off Bharat Nirman Canoe race by the Tribal Women at Kamorta Jetty in the afternoon. As part of the Campaign, a Bharat Nirman Marathon will be held on 3rd morning. A large number of tribal youths and women will take part in this theme based Marathon to focus on the initiatives taken by the government to take Rural India forward. The Islands Chief Secretary, AnandPrakash will flag off this first ever Marathon in this remote island on Monday morning at 7 a.m. at Indira Park .
The main attraction of the campaign is the Exhibition on Bharat Nirman showcasing the achievements made under different flagship programmes of the government. About 30 departments including central media units participate in the campaign to enlighten the tribal people on various initiatives taken by the government to improve the living standards of the people in rural areas, besides different welfare schemes. The campaign will begin with a colourful rally by the tribal youths, Volunteers from Nehru Yuva Kendra and the school students.
The Press Information Bureau in close coordination with Andaman and Nicobar Adminstration and Central Media Units organizes this campaign with the objective of highlighting different developmental and welfare programmes of the government, besides showcasing the achievements made under different programmes as well as strides developments in various fields.
