Port Blair, Jan 22:Two Onge couples got married at Dugong Creek, Onge settlement on 19.01.2014 as per the Onge tradition and customs. The Onge couples are TIGULEGE S/o Late Tambolai with KUSI D/o Oroti and UMAKABEGI S/o Late Bulambegi with DANGETEBEGI S/o Late Kanju. The present Onge population is 112 and it is increasing slowly as such marriages among the eligible Onge couples is a positive development in this regard. On the request of the Onge chief and the parents of the Onge couples, community feast was arranged by the Department after the marriage. All the Onge population participated in the marriage ceremony and community feast. Elderly Onge men preached Onge couples as per their tradition after the marriage.
Shri Som Naidu, Director (Tribal Welfare), Shri Arun Gupta, Assistant Commissioner (TW) and Dr. Pranob Kr. Sircar, Tribal Welfare Officer, Onge settlement, Dugong Creek were present during the marriage ceremony. Gift items were presented to the Onge couples by the Department.
