Search operation continues for Ganga Mandal’s body

Port Blair, Dec. 18: The body of Dhani Nallah Tragedy’s hero, Shekhar Biswas, was recovered today. The body was found from the creek area between RRO and Marichdera, Middle Andaman at 7.35 am with the collective efforts of General Public, Police and Forest Department. Soon the body was brought to Billygrond PHC and after Postmortem the body was handed over to the family members at Shantipur. A large number of villagers took part in the final procession of Shekhar Biswas, it is learnt.
According to reports on 16 December, a dinghy with 25 passengers capsized, Shekhar Biswas had helped a girl to reach upto the shore, without thinking about his own survival. Even after saving the girl, Shekhar Biswas did not give up and jumped into the water again to save that girl’s mother but on the way he collapsed.
Official sources said that out of the six persons missing, the bodies of five have been recovered. As reported earlier, the incident took place when an overloaded engine dinghy which was coming from Cuthbert Bay to Dhani Nallah with 25 passengers capsized near Dhani Nallah, Middle Andaman. Nineteen persons reached the shore safely. However, search operation by the Naval divers and other agencies to trace Ganga Mandal (80yrs female) is still continuing.
