Port Blair, Dec 11: The PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt Governor to consider regular arrangements of medical checkups and awareness programme against Cancer in all the rural and remote areas of the Islands, like Rangat, Mayabunder, Diglipur, Neil, Havelock, Little Andaman, Nicobar and Campbell Bay and rural areas of South Andaman.
He has also urged that in case the visiting super specialist are sent once in a month to all these areas in rotation basis, that will be a great help to the people of the Islands.
Kuldeep has also stated in his letter that the mortality rate of Cancer patients are very high in our islands and mostly the cancer is diagnosed at the third stage, when both the patient and the Doctor become helpless. Then also, the patient and their family members spend lot of money towards medical treatment and except a few, others die keeping behind their helpless family members in distress.
Kuldeep has further stated that the present era’s advanced Medical Science can diagnose the attack of cancer at its first stage if timely checkups are done. Accordingly, request has been submitted by the PCC chief for consideration of regular medical checkups and conducting of periodical awareness programmes as a welfare measure.
