Port Blair, Dec 05: Mr. D. Ayyappan, General Secretary of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association along with a delegation of the Shipping Department Sub-Committee of the Association met Capt. Rajinder Singh, Director of Shipping Services yesterday and discussed with him various issues related to the employees working in the Afloat Section of the Department.
The Association demanded that periodical survey of all the vessels should be undertaken. The Association demanded that the existing promotional channel for all the Group C staff of the Afloat Section should be retained. The Association further demanded that Night Duty Allowance should be given to all those employees who perform duty during night. The Association demanded immediate steps to fill up all the vacant posts in the Shipping Department. The Association suggested that till regular recruitment is undertaken, employees on contract basis should be recruited for the smoothly maintaining the boat services.
The Association has requested the Director of Shipping Services to take up with the Govt. of India for enhancing the rate of overtime allowance to the employees working in the Shipping Department as a special case in order to maintain uninterrupted shipping services in these far flung islands. The Association has also demanded upgraded pay for various categories of employees including Master, Serang, Deck Rating, Engine Room Rating, etc. The Association requested the DSS to facilitate for various statutory trainings of the existing employees. The Director of Shipping Services was kind enough to discuss all the points raised by the Association and assured the Association of early favourable action.
The other members of the delegation were (1) Mr. R. Rajendran, Central Organising Secretary, (2) Mr. S. Sashikumar Pillai, CEC Member (3) Mr. M. Shaktivel, Vice President, (4) Mr. Biswajit Biswas Secretary and some Executive Committee Members of the Shipping Department Sub-Committee of the Association. Deputy Director (Shipping) and other Senior Officers of the Shipping Department were also present in the meeting.
