Port Blair, Dec 04: Lt Gen Anil Chait, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC) accompanied by Mrs Neeta Chait, President Defence Wives Welfare Association (DWWA)are on a visit to Andaman and Nicobar Command from 03 to 06 Dec 13.
Lt Gen Anil Chait was commissioned into the Armoured Corps, and later commanded an Armoured Regiment and an Independent Armoured Brigade in the Western Theatre with distinction. In a distinguished career spanning nearly forty years, the officer has been associated with the Special Action Group i.e. The Black Cats, of the National Security Guards, which he helped raise. As a Divisional Commander he was involved in the conversion of an Infantry Brigade to an Amphibious Brigade. As General Officer Commanding a Corps, he undertook a study and validated ‘Restructuring of the Strike Corps’.As Central Army Commander, the General coordinated the rescue and relief operations in Uttrakhand under ‘OPERATION SURYA HOPE’ where the Armed Forces evacuated large number of stranded pilgrims from inaccessible areas, in a planned and organised manner. He is a graduate of the US Army War College and was awarded the Medal of Excellence. The General Officer took over as CISC on 01 Jul 13, and in his present appointment has been intimately involved with Andaman and Nicobar Command.
During the course of the visit the General Officer was briefed on the strategic, environmental and infrastructural issues related to these islands. To have a first hand experience and familiarize with the ground realities, the General Officer was given a windshield tour of Great Nicobar Island and Air Force Station Carnicobar,as the nation develops these islands in close synchronization with the ecological sensitivities and imperatives.
