Port Blair, Nov 11: North and Middle Andaman District seems to have the worst roads in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Andaman Sheekha in the past few months have published stories of dozens of roads which are not repaired and maintained properly. Recently reports regarding yet another bad road surfaced from Janakpur Village under Rangat Tehsil.
The road stretch between Hawa Mehal Chowk to Purana Thana, Rangat is the only way to approach the Janakpur village and the road is in pathetic condition, it doesn’t seem that the road once existed. There were no signs of the black top and there was just mud and boulders lying on the pathway which the residents call as road.
When Andaman Sheekha team visited the spot at first our team was confused whether any road existed in the site shown by the villagers but soon we found some bitumen traces out there. The condition of the road worsened after the recent heavy rains because of the cyclone. Now there are several big holes in the pathway that added to the miseries of the villagers.
According to the villagers the road is in the same pathetic condition from the last nine years without maintenance. The HRO in his letter addressed to the Lt. Governor has also raised the matter of the said road and demanded immediate repair works. It is high time that the authorities wake up and start the repairing works for such roads to facilitate the general public.
