Port Blair, Nov. 11: Andaman and Nicobar Police has arrested two persons for illegally transporting liquor to tribal dominated Car Nicobar Islands, where liquor is banned.
According to police K. Mani, a Seaman of MV Sentinel vessel and N. Senthil, a worker at Car Nicobar were caught red handed while illegal smuggling of liquor to Car Nicobar Island, which is home for Nicobarese Tribe of A & N Islands.
“Acting on an information a team of A & N Police was constituted and both the accused were arrested at Mus jetty while exchanging 15 bottles of IMFL brought by accused K. Mani clandestinely onboard MV Sentinel on Saturday.
A FIR was registered at PS Car Nicobar and both the accused persons were arrested. Further investigation is in progress,” Pankaj Kumar Singh the Superintendent of Police of Car Nicobar told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.
Meanwhile, Nicobar Police is investigating deep to find out whether the said seaman was involved in similar crimes in past.
When asked whether some other persons are also involved in this racket as bringing 15 bottles in a passenger ships is a difficult task the SP said “We are investigating into this matter and I urge public to pass on any information regarding such activities to us,” the SP added.
