Port Blair, Nov 05: A delegation of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association today met the Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration and brought to his notice the undue delay in allotment of various types of quarters under the general pool at Port Blair area. The delegation has brought to the notice of the Chief Secretary that the Housing & Estate Department has published the seniority list of eligible candidates for allotment of different types of quarters available under the general pool during the month of September, 2013. The delegation of the Association informed the Chief Secretary that a large number of quarters – both newly constructed as well as old quarters – are lying vacant for allotment to the applicants. The Association informed the Chief Secretary that the Housing & Estate department is not allotting these quarters despite publishing the seniority list two months back. Allotments of these vacant quarters are delayed on one reason or other. A large number of applicants, having completed 25 to 35 years of service, are waiting for allotment of quarters, the Association told the Chief Secretary.
The Association delegation further brought to the notice of the Chief Secretary that during the last one year not a single type IV quarter was allotted to the local recruit employees despite making repeated requests to the Housing & Estate Department by the Association and further said that a large number of type IV quarters are lying vacant for the last more than one year. The delegation of the Association requested the Chief Secretary to issue necessary direction to allot all the vacant quarters including the newly constructed quarters available under the general pool of the Housing & Estate Department immediately so that the employees who are on the waiting list can get an accommodation at least at the fag end of their service.
