Port Blair, Oct 21: A meeting of the parents of the students studying in Classes X, XI and XII, was held at Port Blair recently under the auspices of the Action Council on Professional Education. Participating in the discussion, parents expressed concern over the decreasing number of MBBS seats from the central government for the candidates of these islands. If proper and timely action is not taken by the Administration there will be further reduction in the seats in the coming years also, they feared.
The Action Council on Professional Education was re-constituted with Mr. D. Ayyappan as Convener and Mr. DS Clement Stephen as Treasurer besides 11 Executive Committee Members. The meeting decided to request the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands to take up the demand for more MBBS seats for the candidates of these islands with the Govt. of India. Referring to the Engineering seats in NIT, the meeting decided to urge the Lt. Governor to request the Ministry of Human Resource Development to allot NIT seats in different NITs for the candidates of these islands. At present, seats are allotted only in NIT Durgapur.
A large number of parents attended the meeting which was addressed by Mr. D. Ayyappan, Convener. Mr. Shanker Rao, who presided, also addressed the meeting.
