Port Blair, Oct 06: Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989 makes it mandatory for motor vehicles to comply to prescribed emission norms for each category of vehicles and carry/display a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate issued by Agencies authorized by State Transport Authority.
Andaman & Nicobar Traffic Police and Transport Department will carry out special drives to check the emission level of vehicles plying on the roads of these Islands, particularly in Port Blair.
Any vehicle not carrying a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate will be liable to be prosecuted under section 190 (2) of MV Act, which provides a penalty of Rs 1000/- for the first offence and Rs. 2000/- for any subsequent offence/violation. Vehicle owners are therefore called upon to abide by the law in this regard.
