Port Blair, Oct 06: A workshop on ‘Management of Diabetes’ was organised by Naval Ship Repair Yard, Port Blair on 01 Oct 13 at Galathia Hall in HRD complex of the Yard. The workshop was an initiative as a follow-up action of recently concluded Annual Medical Examination of Yard’s civilian employees at GB Pant Hospital. All the Yard personnel who were detected with ‘Diabetes’ and other interested personnel were invited to attend the workshop. A special feature of the programme was that the wives of the Yard employees were also invited and participated in the workshop as lady of the home can play a major role in aiding effective diabetes management. The aim of the workshop was to disseminate awareness on various facets of ‘Diabetes Management’ to the affected personnel and their wives so that the disorder can be effectively managed by the couple together. The workshop covered all facets of ‘Diabetes Management’ through a presentation by Surg Cdr Vijay Bhaskar, Officer-in-Charge, Station Health Organisation, Port Blair and a talk by Mrs. Farheen Z Sheikh, a freelance Dietician. Interactive session with Mrs Sudeshna Mukherjee, a freelance Counsellor and an expert in non-conventional and spirituality centric healing methods was a highlight of the programme.
Speaking on the occasion the Commodore Superintendent of the Yard expressed concern on the increase in the number of diabetic cases among the personnel and urged all personnel to maintain an ideal balance between diet, work and physical exercise.
The present initiative was a part of continued HR activities of the Yard in line with the HR policy of Andaman & Nicobar Command. The Yard believes that ‘Personnel of the Yard are its strength and the Yard shall care for its personnel’. NSRY (Port Blair), the largest industrial establishment of the ANC was awarded Chief of the Naval Staff Trophy for Best HRD Practices amongst the minor naval establishments of the Navy all over the country last year.
