Port Blair, Sept 29: Naval Ship Repair Yard (NSRY), Port Blair, the largest Industrial Establishment of Andaman & Nicobar Command, celebrated Engineers’ Day on the occasion of birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvarayya (1861-1962) on 19 Sep 13.
48 students of Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Technology visited the repair facilities of Naval Ship Repair Yard, Port Blair and the Floating Dock Navy. The programme was a part of Andaman & Nicobar Command and NSRY’s initiative on the development of technical human resource pool by knowledge sharing.
The coordinating team headed by Cdr Rakhi Ram assisted by Lt Cdr TK Sahoo carried out a central briefing and exposed the students to complete spectrum of ship repair trades such as Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Plant Repairs, Internal Combustion Engines Repair and Overhaul, Pumps and Compressors Overhaul, Fabrication and Outfitting Shops, Store Houses etc. High end technology areas like CNC machining, telecommunication, gyro, navigation aids, radars and PCB repairs were also covered.
In addition to imparting practical aspects of ship repairs, they were provided adequate opportunity to interact with experienced civilian work force, supervisors, service personnel and officers of the Yard. Commodore Superintendent of the Yard (CSY) while interacting with the students brought out the need to correlate theory learnt, with practical application.
“Students were highly inspired and motivated by the hands on exposure they received during the visit, with many expressing their desire to join the Armed Forces,” Col Harmit Singh, Command PRO, ANC said in a press release.
