Port Blair, Sept 11: Andaman and Nicobar Police has arrested a Techie from Port Blair, presently working in Noida, for harassing a girl from Andaman and Nicobar Islands and her family members by abusive phone calls, messages, emails and posts in social media sites.
The case against the said Techie, was filed nearly a year back but due to various reasons and complications in cyber crime case, the Andaman and Nicobar Police could not arrest him.
However, the Police developed intelligence and kept watch on the movement of the accused, who originally hails from Madhupur-1 village, Diglipur Island of North Andaman Region.
“We got report that he has arrived Port Blair on Monday and on Tuesday night we have arrested him. He has been produced to court today from where he has been sent to 14 days Judicial Custody,” Mr. Chinmoy Biswal, the Superintendent of Police, South Andaman told Andaman Sheekha today.
According to reports the accused was picked up by a team of PS Aberdeen, under the Supervision of SHO PS Aberdeen Mr. Jagdishwar Rao, from B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (BRAIT) locality of Dollygunj Village of South Andaman and was later arrested under section 509/504/506 IPC read with section 67a/66a/66c/66e/43 IT Act for insulting the modesty of women, criminal intimidation, transmitting message of sexual conduct etc.
According to sources the accused has also used abusive and offensive words for the senior police officers, who were investigating in this case and tried to contact him over phone.
Reports suggest that the accused had obtained IT knowledge from Government Polytechnic after which he did further course in IT, from IIT Bombay.
“The girl and her family members were harassed by this miscreant from time to time. He also used to change his mobile phones and locations several times to evade detection by police. He has been arrested under provision of IT Act and Indian Penal Code,” the SP added.
