Port Blair, Sept 01: DWWA this year conducted the path-breaking inaugural edition of the Badminton Championship for Ladies which received an overwhelming response from all the components of Andaman and Nicobar Command. The Championship,a first of its kind was an idea conceived under the able guidance of Mrs Ranjna Roy, President, Defence Wives Welfare Association. The inaugural DWWA Badminton Championship 2013 was organized at Indoor stadium complex Bheema, Birchgunj Military Station from 19 Aug to 29 Aug 13.
The aim of the championship was to present a platform to inspire confidence amongst families besides providing them an excellent avenue to showcase individual talent and enhancing the spirit of bonding.
In the singles category, the final was won by Mrs Rajwant Kaur of HQ ANC against Mrs Praveen of AWWA, while doubles category was won by Mrs Rajwant Kaur and Mrs Sanchita Dutta representing HQ ANC against Mrs Sunita Badhana and Mrs Jyoti Prashant representing NWWA.
The finals of the event was graced by Air Marshal PK Roy, AVSM, VM, VSM, ADC Commander-in-Chief Andaman & Nicobar Command, who complimented all the ladies participants for showing enormous zeal and enthusiasm and making the inaugural event an outstanding success.
