Port Blair, Aug 26: Taking up the issues of unemployed nurses, Mr. B.P Ray today informed that the amendment in the Recruitment Rules vide Notification No. 123 dated 7.4.2011, wherein the upper limit of age had been reduced from the previous 38 years to 30 years, has impinged upon the job prospects of over 400 unemployed nurses in the Islands. These unemployed nurses have been rendering their services at the hospitals all over the Islands during the last many years. Despite having ample experience, they have now been deprived of the opportunity to participate in selection process due to reduction in upper age limit for employment.
These candidates have been waiting to attend interviews to obtain permanent job as Nurse in DHS. But when the opportunity was at sight, they have been declared as ineligible on age criteria. Taking up the matter with the administration Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, A & N Islands has urged for relaxation in the upper age limit for above said experienced candidates and give opportunity to candidates up to the age of 38 years as per earlier criteria.
In a letter addressed to the Lt Governor, A & N Islands, Mr. Ray has requested him to consider relaxation if age criteria for submission of application before 30th of September 2013 and for participation in appointment process. This will give an opportunity to the eligible and experienced candidates to prove their ability during the interview process and getting for selected, Mr. Ray said.
In the same letter the MP has informed that he also had discussed the matter with the Director of Health Services along with a delegation of unemployed nurses and that the department was willing to consider the cases of Candidates, who have crossed 30 years of age, if age relaxation is granted by the Administration.
Considering the genuine problem Mr. Ray urged the administration to relax that age bar until 38 years so that the unemployed nurses willing to severe the Islands should also get a chance.
