Port Blair, Aug 16: On the Independence day, in an unprecedented incident, a tourist car driver of Havelock attacked Station House Officer, of Havelock Police Station with meat chopper to evade arrest.
“The attacker has been arrested and sent to Judicial Custody today,” the Superintendent of Police of South Andaman, Mr. Chinmoy Biswal told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.
According to reports on 15, August 2013 at around 1.00 am, early in the morning, a Police Team had gone to the house of the Car Driver, Mr. Sunil Augustine, to pick him up for interrogation about a road accident caused by his vehicle.
The car driver had reportedly hit a culvert of Havelock Island on 14, August night and damaged both culvert and his car (AN01F2365, Swift) but he escaped from the location without informing police.
According to police the cab driver was also challaned in the morning by Havelock Police for running tourist vehicle without permit in Havelock Island.
According to sources he had refused to come to Police Station when the first police party went to his house. Later when the SHO of Havelock Police Station, Sub Inspector N S Stalin, reached his house, Sunil Augustine attacked him with a meat copper.
The cab driver was nabbed on the spot and arrested.
The cop however survived the attack and rushed to nearby Hospital, where the cop got four stitches on the right side of his head.
“It’s an attempt to murder case and the attacker has already been sent to Judicial Custody,” the SP added.
