Port Blair, July 28: The autorickshaw owners who have replaced the mechanical fare meter with electronic fare meter will be granted subsidy by the Directorate of Transport. Accordingly, under this program Rs.1000/- will be granted to those autorickshaw owners who were having mechanical fare meters fitted in their autorickshaw till May 31, 2011 and have replaced the mechanical fare meters with electronic fare meters by Dec 31, 2012.
However, despite wide publicity of the scheme by the Transport Deptt, through media, only six applications have been received till date.
Therefore, the Transport Department has once again urged the autorickshaw owners, who are eligible for electronic fare meter subsidy, to submit their application for availing the benefit, to the concerned STS unit incharge for scrutinizing and onward transmission to the Directorate of Transport immediately so that the subsidy can be given to the eligible beneficiaries at the earliest, a communication from the Secretary, STA said.
