Port Blair, Jul 24: To commemorate the 64th Vanamahotsava-2013, the Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association (CGWWA), Andaman & Nicobar Region in association with the Department of Environment & Forests, A & N Administration organized a tree plantation drive at Tatrashak Vihar on 24th July 2013. The families of the Coast Guard units based at Port Blair participated in the event with full enthusiasm. The tree plantation drive was part of the ongoing Vanamahotsava to generate awareness about the importance of afforestation and soil conservation.
Mrs. Jyoti Murthy, President, Tatrakshika (A&N) planted the first sapling and appreciated the Coast Guard fraternity for taking earnest steps towards environment conservation. Flower plants and variety of trees consisting of Ashoka, Sadabahar, Rudraksh, Gulmohar, Palm trees and Bamboo plants were planted in the locality.
