Port Blair, July 14: In an incredible incident of courage and bravery, a youth of Manglutan village of South Andaman, yesterday cheated death by fighting and defeating a killer crocodile.
According to reports, Mr. Lepan Das, 35 years old resident of Manglutan Village had gone to his field for switching-on an electric motor at around 2.00 pm, when suddenly he was attacked by a crocodile.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Lepan Das recalled the haunting incident, when the croc was pulling him towards a nearby nallah. Lepan struggled for survival by holding a tree firmly. When the croc was unable to pull him, it grabbed another leg of Lepen and started pulling him.
According to Lepan’s father, the fight continued for nearly 10 minutes. Lepan’s old father was standing very close but everything happened so fast that he could not even react. At last Lepan hit the eyes of the crocodile, as he knew that eyes are weakest point of crocodiles. As he had expected the croc left him and escaped.
Severely injured Lepen was immediately rushed to Manglutan Hospital from where he was again rushed to G B Pant Hospital. The brave youth suffered multiple injuries and now got several dozens of stitches but he was successful in saving his own life without any help. Andaman Sheekha salutes the braveheart.
