Sri Vijaya Puram, November 4: To develop experience and assess response time, firefighters of Fire Station Baratang undertook a live mock drill on firefighting and rescue operations at 1525 hrs on October 31 at the ANIIDCO Petrol Pump, Baratang, a high hazard area. The scenario was a fire at the diesel generator set due to a prolonged power cut. The staff of the ANIIDCO Petrol Pump, Baratang also participated in the live mock drill simultaneously.
Firefighters laid one length of hose and discharged foam simultaneously, while fire extinguishers were operated by the staff of the petrol pump. The entire vicinity was cordoned off to restrict the entry of vehicles and the public.
Apart from this, a debriefing and a training session on handling various safety concerns at the petrol pump and the operational techniques of first-aid firefighting equipment at the time of need were conducted.
A total of 6 staff and 11 members of the general public were present. The drill concluded at around 1630 hrs, said a press release from the Station Officer, FS Baratang.
