Sri Vijaya Puram, November 1: The Lieutenant Governor, Dr. Dinesh Sharma, yesterday flagged off two mobile screening units (Mobile Medical Vans) for cancer screening of the citizens of the Islands at a programme organised at Hotel Lemon Tree, Sri Vijaya Puram, under the joint initiative of the State Bank of India Foundation and Ashray Foundation. These Mobile Medical Vans are equipped with doctors, paramedical staff and essential medicines to ensure the availability of necessary healthcare facilities.
Further, safety equipment was also distributed to the fishing community with the objective of ensuring their safety and reducing incidents of human-crocodile conflict.
The launch of these mobile screening units is an important initiative towards making healthcare services accessible to citizens residing in remote and inaccessible areas and enhancing public awareness about cancer. At the same time, the safety equipment distributed to the fishing community will prove helpful in ensuring their safety and reducing the risks of human-crocodile conflict.
This Health Awareness and Screening Campaign will be continuously implemented across the Islands over the next three years. This initiative is a commendable example of the Administration’s commitment towards public health, public safety and the welfare of the Islanders.
