Sri Vijaya Puram, November 1: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, laid the foundation stones for the upgradation of two rural roads at Burmanalla and Indiranagar, Guptapara, on October 28. The works have been sanctioned by the Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-III) scheme at a total estimated cost of approximately Rs. 13.50 crore. The two road works are (i) Upgradation of rural road from Burmanalla to Pema Junction via Maccapahad, covering a length of 5.530 km, at an estimated cost of Rs. 6.68 crore, and (ii) Upgradation of rural road from SH-10 to Guptapara-II Community Hall, at an estimated cost of approximately Rs. 6.82 crore.
These roads had been in a highly deplorable condition for several years, causing considerable inconvenience to the local residents and road users. Due to severe financial constraints, the PRIs were unable to undertake the necessary repair, renovation and upgradation works for a long time. The sanctioning of these projects under PMGSY-III by the Government of India is therefore a significant step towards improving rural road connectivity and providing better transportation facilities to the people of the area.
As per the contract agreements executed between the Public Works Department (PWD) and the contractors, the roads will carry a five-year maintenance guarantee period, during which the contractors will be responsible for ensuring their proper maintenance in accordance with the contractual conditions.
The MP expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, the Lt. Governor and officials of the UT Administration for sanctioning these important road development projects and hoped that the works would be completed within the stipulated time frame, ensuring durable and improved road connectivity for the benefit of the people.
