Port Blair, July 09: It seems that soon stray dogs and cattle will outnumber Islanders in these remote Indian Islands. Even after his best efforts the former Lt. Governor, Lt. Gen (Retd.) Bhopinder Singh could not end this menace, leaving public upset and disappointed.
Dog and Cattle menace has taken such an ugly shape that at night it has become impossible for public to walk on city roads. In every prominent junction one can find atleast dozens of dogs, which chase and bite people. Children are afraid of going out at night in various pockets of Port Blair city.
Adding to the plight one can see herds of cattle roaming freely on city roads causing obstruction for traffic and posing serious risk for commuters. Cattle resting on road at night causes dangerous situation on road. These cattle on road have already caused dozens of accidents in Port Blair city.
Sadly neither PBMC nor District Administration could tame the cattle and dog menace in city, which shows nothing but lack of commitment among authorities.
The new Lt Governor, Lt. Gen. (Retd) A K Singh reportedly went out for a coastal cruise in Raj Hans vessels today. Hope very soon the new Lt. Governor will bring out time for a walk on the city road at late night hours to understand how bad the situation is. A walk on the road from Murugan Temple to Chakkargaon will reveal the truth.
In last two years Andaman Sheekha had contacted various senior officers of PBMC to know the possible reasons behind the failure of PBMC to tame dog and cattle menace but till now Andaman Sheekha had general public got only assurance and false promises.
