Sri Vijaya Puram, October 23: The President of the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), Mr. Rangalal Halder, has urged the Lieutenant Governor of A&N Islands to immediately provide two additional vehicle ferry vessels between Middle Strait and Baratang Jetty until the completion of the proposed bridge.
In his representation, Mr. Halder highlighted that the existing two vehicle ferry vessels are insufficient to meet the increasing movement of passengers and private and commercial vehicles, resulting in long queues and prolonged waiting hours.
He pointed out that vehicles departing from Jirkatang in the 06:00 AM convoy are often found waiting at Middle Strait Jetty even at 11:00 AM, causing severe inconvenience to passengers, patients, tourists, transport operators and the business community.
Mr. Halder requested the Lieutenant Governor to direct the concerned department to increase the existing fleet from two to four vehicle ferry vessels and continue this arrangement until the proposed Middle Strait–Baratang Bridge is completed and becomes operational.
He emphasised that immediate intervention would significantly reduce waiting times, improve connectivity between South Andaman and North & Middle Andaman, and provide much-needed relief to the islanders.
