Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 9: Mahatma Gandhi Government College (MGGC), Mayabunder, North and Middle Andaman, organised a one-day seminar on “Gandhian Thought and Development” on October 9, 2026, under the aegis of the Department of Political Science. The programme commenced at 10 AM with a welcome address by Dr. Godson Bedeiah, Assistant Professor, Department of English, followed by an address by Dr. R. V. R. Murthy, Principal, MGGC, Mayabunder.
During the technical sessions, Dr. P. K. Mondal, Resource Person, spoke on “Mahatma Gandhi: Awam and Rashtriya Pitha.” Mr. M. Rajesh, Resource Person, delivered a talk on “Gandhiji’s Views on Education and Development,” while Mr. Kaushik Barman, Resource Person, spoke on “Gandhi’s Principles and Sustainable Development.”
Undergraduate students from the Departments of Political Science and History, namely Mr. Debojit Halder, Miss Probhati Gomasta and Mr. Ch. Bharat Raj, presented papers on Gram Swaraj and the core concept of non-violence. Their presentations highlighted the relevance of Gandhian ideals in contemporary society and the importance of peace, self-governance and sustainable development.
The seminar concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Miss Ekta Rani, Resource Person, Department of Political Science. The entire programme was coordinated by Miss Heena, Resource Person, Department of Political Science.
The seminar provided an academic platform for students to engage with Gandhian philosophy and reflect on its continuing relevance to education, rural development, non-violence and sustainable development.
