Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 08: CPI (M) has demanded 5-year upper age relaxation for qualified departmental candidates with 3 years’ service in the posts of MTS, Mazdoor, etc so that they will also get a chance to compete for the earmarked posts of LGCs. In a letter sent to the Lt Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee while appreciating the decision of the A & N Administration to initiate filling up of the vacant posts of Lower Grade Clerks under the Amalgamated Clerical Cadre earmarked for the departmental candidates having a minimum of 3 years’ service in the Group C posts of MTS, Maszdoor, etc (earlier Group D posts), brought to the notice of the Lt Governor that the Administration had not appointed any candidate against the earmarked posts of Lower Grade Clerks for the last seven years. Thus, the qualified departmental candidates did not get any opportunity to participate in the recruitment examinations for selection of candidates for the earmarked posts of LGCs.
He has submitted before the Lt Governor that many qualified candidates have become over-aged in the interregnum period since 2019. Due to one reason or other, the Administration did not initiate the process of conducting recruitment examinations among the qualified departmental candidates. Ayyappan stated in the letter that it was not the fault of these departmental candidates that they did not get any opportunity to compete in the limited departmental recruitment examinations. If they do not get a chance to compete for the posts advertised now, they will never get a chance for promotion or appointment as clerical staff.
CPI (M) Secretary brought to the notice of the Lt Governor that the Administration in the recent past has already allowed upper age relaxation for the over-aged candidates in respect of recruitment examinations conducted after Covid pandemic. He has requested the Lt Governor to look into this issue and allow a 5-year upper age relaxation for the qualified departmental candidates with 3 years’ service in the posts of MTS, Mazdoor, etc. so that they will also get a chance to compete for the earmarked posts of LGCs.
