
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 08: The Department of Environment & Forests, A&N Administration, seized 93 kg of venison (wild animal meat) during an operation conducted by Manglutan Range under South Andaman Forest Division on 08.10.2026.
Acting on credible information regarding illegal trading of wildlife meat, Forest Department personnel intercepted a woman and seized 21 kg of venison. During a subsequent search, an additional 72 kg of venison was recovered, bringing the total seizure to 93 kg of venison and other articles suspected to have been used in the illegal trade. Further investigation is underway.
It is pertinent to mention that the same woman was earlier intercepted on 01.08.2026 by Manglutan Range in a separate wildlife offence case, during which 16 kg of venison was seized. Accordingly, Wildlife Offence Case was registered under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and the matter was brought before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Sri Vijaya Puram.
The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of Mr. Rajee George, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, South Andaman Forest Division, and under the guidance of Mr. R.S. Sharath, Assistant Conservator of Forests, and Mr. Amalendu Mondal, Forest Ranger.
The South Andaman Forest Division reiterates its appeal to the general public to cooperate in safeguarding the forests and wildlife of the Islands and to report any information regarding illegal hunting, possession, transport, storage or trade of forest and wildlife produce through the Forest Department Helpline 03192-255228. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
