
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 08: On the occasion of World Sight Day 2026, an Awareness-Cum-Eye Screening Camp was organised by Port Blair Guru Ki Rasoi (PBGKR) in collaboration with the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) and G.B. Pant Hospital, in association with the Councillor of Ward No. 19 and Senior Vice Chairperson, PBMC, Mr. V. Vetri Velu.
The camp was conducted at the Councillor’s Office, Bathubasti, with the objective of promoting awareness about eye health, encouraging timely eye screening and educating the community about the importance of maintaining healthy eyesight.
A total of 41 beneficiaries availed the services during the camp. The beneficiaries included elderly persons as well as children, who underwent eye screening and received guidance regarding eye health and preventive care.
During the camp, participants were also briefed on general eye-health practices, the importance of regular eye check-ups, early detection of eye-related problems and the need to seek timely medical attention whenever symptoms or vision-related concerns arise.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mandeep Grewal, Founder & President, Port Blair Guru Ki Rasoi, expressed his gratitude to the Directorate of Health Services and the doctors and medical team from G.B. Pant Hospital for extending their support and making the screening camp possible.
He also thanked Mr. V. Vetri Velu, Senior Vice Chairperson, PBMC and Councillor of Ward No. 19, for providing the venue and making the necessary arrangements for conducting the camp at Bathubasti. Mr. Grewal reiterated that Port Blair Guru Ki Rasoi remains committed to taking preventive healthcare, medical awareness and screening services closer to communities, particularly those who may otherwise face difficulty in accessing such services.
The camp concluded with an emphasis on the importance of “healthy eyes, early screening and timely care” for people of all age groups.
