Port Blair, Feb 27: With the support of HCDI, Pune, SURABI- DISHA inaugurated DISHA CHILDREN MOBILE LIBRARY during the programme organized at Caddlegunj on Saturday 25th Feb. 2012. Speaking on the mobile library, the director of DISHA – SURABI Fr. Jesu Manickam said that the new mobile library will be visiting villages of FerragunjTehisil on Saturdays for children up to the age of 15. “The specially branded cheep will be easily recognizable. It will carry a range of books, films and story sacks for loan to children and children’s parliaments and provide a specific service for them.”.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest Rev. Antonyraj, the vice provincial of Chennai province said that knowledge is power and this power will enable the children to use their potentials to the maximum.”The mobile library will enable the children to cultivate the habit of reading and encourage the children to acquire more knowledge through books, he added. During the programme, certificates to those candidates who completed training in Four wheeler driving and tailoring were distributed.
A total of 40 candidates benefited by this initiative. SURABI – DISHA also disbursed loans to self help group members. The members of joint liability groups received loans from Indian Overseas Bank to buy Auto, to start four wheeler spare parts shop. Two tailoring machines were distributed by SURABI- DISHA with the support of HCDI- Pune to trainees namely Ms. Soni and Ms. Suchita. Later, candle making unit run by self help group was inaugurated at Tusnabad.
Four wheeler spare parts shop was inaugurated with the support of Indian Overseas Bank, Port Blair. Among those attended the programme were Fr. Sagayaraj, economer of Chennai province, Mr. Athirstavel, General Manager of NABARD, Mr. Somenath Ganguly, senior Manger of IOB, Ms. V.K. Mariyam Bibi, Zilla Parishad member, Mrs. Naseem Banu, Pradhan of Bindrvan panchyat, and Mr. Aziz , Stewartgunj Panchyat. Earlier, Ms. Vimala welcomed the gathering while Ms. Sarita proposed vote of thanks. About 200 people and 30 children attended the programme.
