Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 25: Andaman Law College, in collaboration with the Consumer Advocacy Group (CAG), conducted a three-month certificate course exclusively for their final-year students. The program was conceived and designed by Prof. (Dr.) PVVS Murthy, National Chairman of CAG, as part of the CAG’s mission to equip aspiring advocates with essential knowledge and practical skills in consumer advocacy. The program was organised under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) PVN Sarma, Principal of Andaman Law College, and the same has been coordinated by Ms. Alqama, Assistant Professor (Law), and Ms. P. Aliya Majeed, a final-year student. As many as 12 online classes were held on Saturdays.
The program aimed to equip students with practical knowledge and professional ethics as well. The topics include the Consumer Protection Act, related laws, and the procedures to be followed in consumer litigation. Special emphasis was placed on consumer dispute redressal proceedings before the Consumer Commission and steps in handling consumer complaints.
The Consumer Advocacy Group, which has its presence in all the states and the UTs in India with a membership of more than 3,000, has drafted resource persons from various corners of the country. The resource persons include Senior Advocate from Mumbai Dr. Uday Prakash Warunjikar, Retired High Court Judge of Andhra Pradesh, Justice Y.V. Rama Krishna, Advocate Mr. Gollakota Srinivasu, and Mr. Somu Krishna Murthy (Andhra Pradesh) and Dr Sreeja B.J., HoD, Hindustan School of Law, Chennai CAG Chairman, Dr. P. V. V. S. Murthy, in his concluding session, declared that CAG is going to organise a National Seminar in collaboration with Andaman Law College in the days to come as its 104th National Seminar. This initiative of CAG and ALC ignited the budding lawyers to commit themselves for consumer justice in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. This ‘add-on’ certification infused a sense of social responsibility among the students. This is the first of its kind at Andaman Law College and an initiative to bring seriousness to academics after becoming a constituent college of the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Institute of Higher Learning.
Certificates will be awarded to all the participants based on their attendance, performance, submission of assignment(s), and a written examination on the topics covered during the sessions. (EOM)
