
Mayabunder, Sept. 15: Former Pramukh of Mayabunder Mr. Abdul Siddique, along with a delegation of residents from Danapur and Pokadera Panchayat, met Sushant Padha, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman, and Mr. Krishna Chaitanya, Assistant Commissioner (HQ), at Mayabunder on Tuesday and raised several important public issues concerning the area.
The delegation primarily highlighted the longstanding water shortage faced by residents of two pockets of Danapur Ward No. 1 under Pokadera Panchayat. According to the delegation, around 25 to 30 families in one pocket and another 10 to 15 families residing near Flour Mill Road have been facing inadequate water supply for several years, with the situation becoming particularly difficult during the peak summer months.
Mr. Abdul Mubeen, Assistant Engineer, and Indrani, Junior Engineer, were also present during the discussion. Taking note of the issue, the Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officials to resolve the water supply problem within a time-bound period of two months.
The delegation also raised issues concerning the availability of technical staff at Dr. R.P. District Hospital, Mayabunder. The shortage of a Laboratory Technician and Dental Technician was discussed in the presence of Dr. Christina, Medical Officer-in-Charge of Dr. R.P. District Hospital.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner spoke telephonically with Director of Health Services Siddha Raju regarding the shortage of a Laboratory Technician and assured the delegation that a Laboratory Technician would be posted at Dr. R.P. District Hospital, Mayabunder.
The issue of the Dental Technician was also taken up with Dr. Shailaja over the telephone. It was informed that a Dental Technician posted for Mayabunder was presently serving at Rangat. The concerned official was directed to join duty at Dr. R.P. District Hospital, Mayabunder, immediately.
The delegation also discussed the condition of the Mayabunder District Road and sought early repair of the road. It was informed that the repair work would be taken up as soon as weather conditions improve.
Mr. Abdul Siddique expressed gratitude to Deputy Commissioner Mr. Sushant Padha and Assistant Commissioner Mr. Krishna Chaitanya for giving a patient hearing to the issues raised by the delegation and for taking immediate action by contacting the concerned authorities and issuing necessary directions.
On behalf of the residents of Pokadera and Mayabunder, Mr. Siddique thanked both officers for their prompt response and for initiating steps towards resolving the public issues within a stipulated timeframe.
