Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 09: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS), through the Senior Veterinary Officer and team of Veterinary Hospital Garacharma, organised a Farmers’ Field School on modern goat farming at the field of progressive farmer Mr. Rajiv, New Bimblitan, under the National Livestock Mission (NLM).
The event witnessed active participation from local farmers and stakeholders. Mr. K. Mani Vannan, PRI member, also attended the training as a participant, reflecting strong community support for the programme.
During the interactive session, the Senior Veterinary Officer briefed the participants on several flagship government schemes aimed at supporting livestock entrepreneurs. Detailed information was provided on the NLM Entrepreneurship Development Programme, the Livestock Insurance Scheme, Artificial Insemination in goats for breed improvement, and Kisan Credit Card (KCC) facilities for easy institutional credit access.
The expert team from Veterinary Hospital Garacharma covered essential goat husbandry practices, including scientific housing, balanced nutrition, routine healthcare, disease management and farm sanitation. Useful inputs such as steel basins, along with refreshments, were distributed to the attendees.
The programme concluded with an interactive session during which the farmers clarified their technical doubts. The participants expressed their gratitude to the Department for conducting such an informative outreach programme in their locality.
