
Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 31: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS), in collaboration with UT-ATMA under Prothrapur Block, conducted a Demonstration Programme on Azolla Production on 29th August 2026 in the field of Mr. Bimal Bepari, R/o Swaraj Dweep.
The programme was conducted by the Senior Veterinary Officer and team. During the demonstration, the farmers were explained the method of cultivating Azolla, its high protein content and nutritional benefits as a livestock feed, and the simple techniques for establishing and maintaining Azolla pits. The participants were also sensitised about the advantages of using Azolla as a low-cost, locally available and sustainable feed supplement that can significantly reduce the cost of animal rearing while improving the overall health and productivity of cattle and other livestock.
The programme aimed at encouraging livestock farmers to adopt Azolla cultivation at the household and farm level so that a regular supply of nutritious green feed is available throughout the year. The participating farmers showed keen interest in adopting Azolla production and expressed their willingness to establish Azolla pits at their farms.
