Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 31: As part of its ongoing efforts to extend the outreach of the Unique Disability ID (UDID) Scheme to rural and remote areas, the Directorate of Social Welfare, A&N Administration, conducted Awareness-cum-Registration and Renewal Programmes at Govind Nagar and Shyamnagar Gram Panchayat, Swaraj Dweep, and Neil Kendra Gram Panchayat, Shaheed Dweep on 27th and 28th August 2026. The programmes were attended by Panchayat representatives, Doctors, Anganwadi Workers, Safai Mitras, Panchayat staff, Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), caregivers and general public. The participation of local functionaries helped in reaching out to eligible beneficiaries and creating awareness at the grassroots level.
During the sessions, the State Coordinator (UDID), Directorate of Social Welfare, sensitized the participants about the UDID Scheme, its importance and benefits, disability certification, registration and renewal procedures, and the online application process. Information was also provided regarding the medical assessment and Medical Board process required for UDID certification. Following the awareness sessions, UDID registration and renewal were facilitated for eligible PwDs, including persons applying for the first time and existing beneficiaries requiring renewal of their UDID Cards. Beneficiaries were guided through the application process and informed about the subsequent medical assessment requirements.
The initiative is part of the Directorate of Social Welfare’s efforts to improve the coverage, accessibility and timely facilitation of UDID services, particularly for Persons with Disabilities residing in areas where access to departmental offices and related services may be comparatively difficult. Through such awareness and facilitation programmes, the Directorate aims to ensure that eligible PwDs are able to obtain or renew their UDID Cards and consequently access various Government schemes, benefits and services available to them. The programmes concluded with appreciation to the Panchayat authorities, medical personnel, Anganwadi Workers, Safai Mitras, Panchayat staff and other supporting personnel for their active cooperation and assistance. The participation and cooperation of the local community and beneficiaries contributed significantly to the successful conduct of the programmes.
