
Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 30: A two-day training programme on “Importance of Vaccination in Prevention and Control of Diseases in Poultry Sector” was successfully conducted on 28th and 29th August, 2026 at Wandoor Gram Panchayat, South Andaman, under UT-ATMA 2026–27 by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, South Andaman.
Resource persons from ICAR-CIARI and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Sri Vijaya Puram, along with Senior Veterinary Officers from Central Hatchery, Dollygunj and Central Livestock Farm (CLF), Dollygunj, delivered technical sessions and interacted with the participating farmers. Shri Adhir Das, Gram Pradhan, Wandoor Gram Panchayat, attended the programme and encouraged the farmers to adopt scientific poultry farming practices.
The training focused on timely vaccination, prevention and control of major poultry diseases, scientific health management, biosecurity, sanitation and general flock management. Farmers were also sensitized about the importance of preventive healthcare in reducing disease-related losses and improving productivity in poultry farming.
A special feature of the programme was a visual presentation on major infectious diseases of poultry. Through photographs and visual aids, farmers were acquainted with the clinical signs of common poultry diseases, their early identification, treatment and management, preventive measures and the importance of appropriate vaccination.
The two-day programme concluded with distribution of certificates to the participants and an emphasis on timely vaccination, proper biosecurity and scientific management for maintaining healthy and productive poultry flocks.
